Certified or original documents are required to apply for benefits. Notarized copies are not acceptable. These documents may include, but are not limited to the following: Military Discharge Records (DD214) Residency
Requirements
No residency requirements are specified for assistance with claims for the Department of Veterans Affairs. To qualify for financial assistance, applicants must have resided in Marion County for the last three months. The applicant, or the veteran on whose service the application is based, must have been honorably discharged from active military service performed for other than training purposes only. Meetings First and Third Thursdays of the Month 1:00 p.m. at the Veterans Service Office Purpose
Of primary importance to the Veterans Service Commission is the provision of the basic necessities of life to veterans and their dependents. The Veterans Service Commission was established to assist veterans and their dependents who have met with unexpected hardship as a result of sickness, injury, disease; or have become destitute due to lack of employment or lack of adequate employment. The Veterans Service Commission provides temporary assistance to veterans and their dependents until a permanent solution to their difficulties can be arranged. Eligibility

Financial Assistance
The Veterans Service Commission provides short-term basic living needs to eligible veterans, spouses, dependent children and widows on a temporary basis as follows: Mortgage/Rent Payments Transportation
The Marion County Veterans Service provides transportation for veterans who have appointments at the VA Outpatient Clinic in Columbus, Ohio. Marion County veterans can reserve seating by calling (740)387-0100, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Please contact the office at least five days prior to your appointment. We have five pickup points for our veterans' convenience--Veterans Memorial Coliseum, Marion County Courthouse, Marion Towers, Southland Mall Sign and Duke Station in Waldo. Links
